Thinking About Money God’s Way: Our Skills

It’s hard to keep life in balance, isn’t it? Work and play, spouse and kids, me and others.

Here’s where some balanced thought is especially needed--what is the source of my income? Isn’t it me? I need to get a job. I need to show up and work. The payroll checks have my name on them, don’t they?

Of course they do. A problem arises, however, when we overdo that self-reliance to the point where we forget that God is the ultimate cause behind it all.

“You may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hands, have produced this wealth for me.’ But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant” (Deuteronomy 8:17,18). God is certainly capable of direct miraculous intervention in our lives, and you may have some sweet stories of miracles in your life. Generally, though, he prefers to work with and through people whenever possible.

But remember that behind all the people are his busy hands, his kind eyes, and his loving smile.
