Should I Fear Ghosts and Evil Spirits?

Deceased people don’t roam the earth

“My desire is to depart and be with Christ” (Philippians 1:23).

Ghosts are a popular theme of Halloween decorations, films and so on. It is commonly believed that ghosts are the presence of dead people returning to the real world. But they are not. People don’t return to the world after they die. Instead, they face judgment (as we read two days ago) and then either enter God’s glory or are condemned to hell.

When Jesus was crucified, He promised one of the criminals who were hanged next to Him: “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43). Jesus does not leave any room for a period of time after death where the deceased roam the earth and make themselves visible to the living.

In a similar way, the apostle Paul expresses his desire “to depart and be with Christ”. He is longing to be with Jesus Christ and knows this will happen when he dies. To Paul, this future is more appealing than his present life on earth. He can hardly wait for it!

When you die, you won’t turn into a ghost. But do you know what your eternal destination will be? Have you already received eternal life by faith in Jesus Christ?
