Chapter 15 is the classic study on the subject of the resurrection. The resurrection of Jesus is central to the Christian faith, but there have always been people who struggle to believe. Some in the Corinthian church had begun to deny the bodily resurrection of Christ, believing only that his “spirit” was raised. That teaching made it possible for people to reconcile their Christian faith with a common belief in that early culture that only a person's spirit was eternal. Therefore, the body and what a person chose to do with their body had no eternal consequence. Paul uses that false teaching as an opportunity to remind the church, once again, of the foundational truth of Christ’s resurrection and why it was central to all believers of the Christian faith.

“For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come” (Hebrews 13:14).
