Heart Attitude #6 – Support the Work Financially

“Remember this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. Each person should do as he has decided in his heart – not reluctantly or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-8

Are you supporting the work financially? Do you give on a consistent basis to the local church? Do you support the work of the ministry on campus where you attend?

Remember, it is not about the amount as much as the attitude of the heart. If you truly desire to give, you will find a way to participate. You might rearrange your budget and cut out that extra pricey coffee in the afternoon to free up funds to give. You might tutor someone in a subject that you are good at and donate the money to support the work. You might volunteer your time to serve in keeping children during ministry opportunities to save the church money in paying workers to do that job.

Do not let the enemy keep you from giving because you cannot give a large amount right now. Give what you can give with a cheerful heart.

Start somewhere! Give the spare change from your couch if you must. Then begin to set aside something each week, even if it is just a quarter. It is often said that 80 percent of the church give nothing to support the work. What if the others just gave a dollar a week? Let us suppose that there are 100 members in our imaginary church. If 80 gave $1 a week that is $80 dollars a week or $320 a month, or $4160 per year. Think of the ministry that could be done with an extra $4160 each year!

Once you experience the joy in giving to the Lord through the local church, I believe you will want to give as much as you can rather than worrying about how much you must give. God loves a cheerful giver. Let us get on our way to become just that by supporting the work financially!
