Since I Met You: A Five-Day Devotional With Jamie KimmettÀpẹrẹ
DAY 5 - All the Way Home
It was my birthday. I was with my best friend and we had just swum across the river Jordon. We couldn’t stop laughing and celebrating the immense love of God that had saved and allowed a couple of ragtag, working-class Scots to be called His children, to walk where Jesus walked and experience a once in a lifetime opportunity to literally cross into the Promised Land together! I still get chills when I think about it.
When I think how far from God I was, dead in sins, unlovable, unreachable, yet, He loved me, and He pursued me - this truly is a miracle. And as much as I hope you get to visit the Holy land one day - you don’t have to travel to the Middle East get in on this! No, everyone who believes in Jesus is forgiven, saved, baptized, and born again in the Holy Spirit and has secured a place in the new Jerusalem! Oh, friends, how faithful is the Love of God that did not spare His only son but gave Him for us all? Whether you were brought up attending Sunday school or converted dramatically I know this; His pursuit of your soul was constant and it still is! - “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion on the day of day Christ Jesus”. He won’t leave you in some valley, halfway from home or abandoned. He will bring you all the way home.
As we drove back from the Jordon, we found ourselves on a road overlooking Jerusalem. And pulling over, we realized this is what God see’s when He watches over His Israel. “As the mountains surround Jerusalem so I surround my people both now and forevermore.” Could it be possible that the “people” here includes us?! Gentiles!!! Wooooow! I am undone when I think that a Jewish messiah has come with a gospel for an outsider like me. This is our heritage; we have shared in the blessings of Abraham, friends! We who have believed are grafted, by faith, to the root of God’s special olive tree. Hallelujah and praise to the Lord of our salvation. For "the Gospel is the power of God for the Jew first and then for the gentile!" And He who watches over his people neither sleeps nor slumbers - He will bring you all the way home.
"It is well with my soul. Your mighty hand has brought me home"
