DAY 21: IMPACT BEYOND A LIFETIME
Key verses: Israel served the Lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had experienced everything the Lord had done for Israel. And Joseph’s bones, which the Israelites had brought up from Egypt, were buried at Shechem in the tract of land that Jacob bought for a hundred pieces of silver from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem. This became the inheritance of Joseph’s descendants. - Joshua 24:31-32
Can the effects of you fulfilling your commission outlive you?
The book of Joshua concludes with the formidable leader passing on to eternity. Yet he has enduring influence over Israel: Israel served God faithfully throughout his reign and even during the time of the elders who outlived him (Joshua 24:31).
Joshua had embraced and fulfilled his mission to lead Israel into the Promised Land, despite some overwhelming challenges. In so doing, he left them a lasting spiritual legacy.
Joseph was another great leader who left a powerful legacy for the nation of Israel. He not only served the purposes of God for his generation, but planned for the next generation to do the same. Two centuries prior, Joseph, nearing death, prophesied that God would bring the Israelites out of Egypt. He made the Israelites swear an oath to carry his bones out of Egypt and into the Promised Land. In so doing, he guided a future generation into fulfilling God’s purposes for them.
Both Joshua and Joseph left a lasting impact by taking their place in God’s purposes for them. They had fulfilled their respective commissions. Let us take up and fulfil God’s purpose for us and thereby leave a powerful legacy for our generation and for the generations to come.
The effects of fulfilling your God-given purpose are far-reaching. When we take up our mission, we will begin to change our world and witness extraordinary miracles and transformations.
So, let us arise and move forward in our purpose. We have been commissioned!
