Real Estate in Heaven
“..since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one.” (Hebrews 10:34)
This is wonderful. Our possessions here are quite insubstantial; there's no solidity to them. But God has given us a promise of eternal possession in the realm of glory, and it fills our hearts with unwavering certainty, assuring us of an enduring substance there. Yes, we already "have" it. They say, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush," but we have our bird both in the bush and in the hand. Heaven is ours even now. We hold the legal document for it, our ‘ticket’ has been paid for and we enjoy the initial blessings of it. We possess heaven in value, in promise, and in essence; we're aware of this not just through hearsay but through personal experience.
Shouldn't the thought of this superior possession awaiting us reconcile us to current losses? We might lose our expendable funds, but our treasure is secure. We may have relinquished the fleeting shadows, but the possession endures because our Savior lives, and the place He has prepared for us is enduring. There exists a superior land, a superior possession, a superior promise, and all this is ours through a superior covenant; therefore, let us be of good courage and declare to the Lord, “Every day I will bless you; I will praise your name forever and ever.”
