Day 10: The Power of God’s Word
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).
Theme
When the government authorities arrogantly revise the very words of Scripture to appease cultural sensibilities, they effectively reduce God’s Word to just another human philosophy that can be edited at will. Scenes of the disciples risking everything to protect the original, unchanged Bible emphasize that the Bible is not subject to human opinions and casual revisions. The believers’ efforts remind us that the Bible should scrutinize our lives; we don’t have the authority to scrutinize what God has inspired.
A central premise of the film is that the Bible is the authoritative, powerful, life-changing Word of God. It’s directly from God, and as such, it’s not just a book to be edited according to popular opinion.
Reflection
- Why is it absolutely essential for us to treat the Bible as God’s very words rather than human philosophy or advice?
- How have you experienced the Bible’s power to reprove, correct, or instruct you in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16)?
- Nate declares: “If you change one word of the Bible, you are essentially trying to take the place of God.” How can we guard against the tendency to twist or distort God’s Word, even unintentionally?
