Today Is Going to Be Another Good DayНамуна
Today is going to be a good day because, in this dark world where evil is so prevalent, those who have a personal relationship with Jesus pierce the darkness with the light that comes from him.
When we seek to have an impact for the eternal kingdom, others will become curious and interested, and God will be glorified. Just like the children’s Sunday School song, “This Little Light of Mine,” our challenge is to be that light which shines brightly for Jesus and makes others curious enough to want to get to know him too.
It’s not always the words we speak (although we can be sure that others are listening!). Sometimes it’s how we carry ourselves, or how we react to trying circumstances. Other times it may be our refusal to join in on the gossip, or how we offer a smile or a kind word to a stranger. We always carry Jesus with us, in all we say, do, or even don’t say.
I always wanted my private neuropsychology practice to be a place of peace, rather than anxiety. Patients are often nervous when they visit the doctor, so I wanted my office to be a place of respite, peace, and tranquility. A place where they felt comfortable enough to share the troubles and trials that were bringing them in for help.
Aesthetics gave the first impression: The walls were painted a very soft sea-like teal, and the cabinets, molding, and doors were a beautiful rich cherry. The entire staff tried to greet patients with a smile and offer an encouraging word. If I heard it once, I heard it hundreds of times, “I don’t know what it is about this place, but I always feel so peaceful here.”
But our secret to maintaining a peaceful, welcoming environment for patients to enjoy was the early morning staff prayer time before any patients arrived. We always prayed it was the light and peace of Jesus that they experienced and would want to experience more of. We prayed for their health and their mental health, for them to feel relaxed and comfortable, and for us to offer mercy, grace, love, and truth to the trials that brought them in.
Father, thank you for indwelling in us with your spirit, to shine through us to a lost and hurting world. Help us to represent you well, and to carry such a sweet aroma that others will desire a relationship with you just for having been in our presence. Expand our territory, Lord, to reach more of your precious children for you. We love you and consider it a privilege to carry your light to those living in darkness. Help us to represent you well. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
