DAY 25 OF 40

The Holy Spirit convicts

I listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit steering me away from sin to Righteousness

Whenever we hear the word conviction we always associate it with condemnation. Condemnation is a lie full of hopelessness and doesn’t point us to Christ; rather, it just keeps pointing us back to the old self. The fact that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, brings no condemnation according to Romans 8:1. This conviction has nothing to do with making me feel guilty, shameful, or experiencing the pain of my past, but the influence of the Holy Spirit leads me in a new way and righteous life in Christ. In John 16:13, Jesus declares that the Holy Spirit's role is to guide believers into all truth. That's what the Holy Spirit does. He guides us to the truth of who we are in Christ; holy, righteous, blameless, justified, and free from sin. The Holy Spirit's work is to affirm our identity as God's beloved children, to draw us near, and not chase us away with condemnation.

Romans 8:1-2 CSB Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, because the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.
John 16:13 CSB When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth. For he will not speak on his own, but he will speak whatever he hears. He will also declare to you what is to come.

God gave us the Holy Spirit to remind us that we are righteous in Christ because of His sacrifice. Whenever we fail, He is the warm, gentle and encouraging voice that points us to the cross and the finished work of Jesus Christ, saying, “You, are still righteous”. He gives us the strength to get up on our feet again and to keep walking in the Spirit. When we know that we are righteous, we will live a life that honors God and inspires people.

John 16:7-8 ESV Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment ...

The Holy Spirit is more than just a “spiritual security guard”.  He guides us into all truth and continually leads us into a more intimate experience and understanding of our righteousness in Christ.

Prayer:

  • Take a moment and re-affirm your identity in Christ and what He has done for you.
  • Remember, the Holy Spirit is your Guide, so if you are looking for guidance right now, be sensitive to His voice.

About this Plan

Follow: Life-Giving Habits

In the person of Jesus, God calls all people not to simply know about Him, but to follow Him with all that we are. Following Jesus daily is more like a habit than it is a moment. Habits are things we do often and regularly, without consciously thinking we have to do them. This 40-day plan will explore life-giving habits to establish us in the new life that Jesus gives.
