The Holy Spirit makes me new
One of my favorite seasons is spring. A season that speaks of something new, fresh and exuberant that is busy happening. It could also be like that for us as believers. The Holy Spirit plays such a huge role in the transformation of our lives. Being a follower of Jesus means much more than just ticking all the boxes. It means letting the Holy Spirit change you. Paul wrote about God transforming us to be more Christ-like.
2 Corinthians 3:18 CSB We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit.
Most of the time when Christians talk about transformation, we normally start with behavioral modification. I am not talking about a to-do list but about the triumphant power and transformation that the Holy Spirit brings through our faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus has set us free from our old nature, the way we used to act and see the world. We need to allow the Holy Spirit to lead us in this freedom and for that to happen, we need to allow the Holy Spirit to lead us.
2 Corinthians 3:17 CSB Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
Galatians 5:1 CSB For freedom, Christ set us free. Stand firm, then, and don’t submit again to a yoke of slavery.
As the Holy Spirit transforms you, God wants to help you renew your attitudes, thinking, and emotions, to help you grow in the Spirit and produce the fruit of the Spirit. Galatians chapter 5 helps us to grasp and almost taste what this transformation looks like. This transformation will not only change your heart but will also impact the people around you.
Galatians5:22-23 CSB But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things.
For this transformation to take place you can play your part:
- Surrender to God’s will for our life, be more dependent on God.
- Acknowledge your weaknesses to God.
- Start to journal what the Lord has done for you.
- Start with thanksgiving in your heart every day.
- Celebrate your small victories with God.
Romans 8:26-27 CSB In the same way the Spirit also helps us in our weakness, because we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because he intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
Prayer:
Take a moment and just surrender what you think stands in the way of the transformation work of the Holy Spirit in your life.
About this Plan
In the person of Jesus, God calls all people not to simply know about Him, but to follow Him with all that we are. Following Jesus daily is more like a habit than it is a moment. Habits are things we do often and regularly, without consciously thinking we have to do them. This 40-day plan will explore life-giving habits to establish us in the new life that Jesus gives.
