WAGE OF A SERVANT
The Levites had special rights and responsibilities which were different from the other tribes of Israel. God had appointed them to take care of anything concerning the articles of the sanctuary and altar. Because of these special duties they could not earn a living for themselves but God made provision for their life. Though the Levites would not receive an inheritance, their provision was guaranteed by the reserve offering brought by the other tribes.
There is a balance between rules and the responsibilities of the Levites. God asked the Israelites to set aside a portion of their offering to bring to the tabernacle of meeting. So the Levites were totally dependent on God’s provision through the offering from the other eleven tribes. As a thanksgiving and their commitment to depend on God, the Levites also gave a tithe for Aaron and his family.
God made a perfect arrangement for the Levites and priests who took part in the ministering work of the tabernacle. Wherever God places us to serve Him, whether at church or in the marketplace, God has appointed our wages. It’s not so much about how much we earn, but the important thing is that we can have enough for our needs. Let us not worry as we serve God. He will be our Guarantor on earth. Let us trust Him, that in our work, God will think of our needs and supply them according to the riches of His glory.
It is not so much the wage we earn, but the important thing is having sufficiency in everything we need.
