God Is ... Through Matthew

DAY 9 OF 28

God is . . . Merciful

When Jesus heard this, he said, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do.” Then he added, “Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.” Matthew 9:12-13 NLT

I love that Jesus was seen with people others thought were the lowest of the low. He didn’t care what they had done or what labels others had given them. No. He loves everyone and gives mercy to all!

Receiving mercy is about not getting the punishment you deserve. Can you think of a time when you miraculously avoided an accident, or a time when your actions deserved punishment — maybe even jail — but God spared you? That is mercy.

In what ways have you experienced God’s mercy?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank You for everything You have done in my life. Thank You that even though I was a sinner, your mercy never fails and is new every day! Give me eyes to see like You, and help me to show mercy to those who need it. Amen in Jesus’ name.
