ABRAHAM LEFT
The Lord said to Abraham: Leave your country. So, Abraham left.
Leaving a secure environment and going to a place, not knowing where, is great faith. It is not easy to uproot your tent at seventy five years and move to a new place. This is not an age to take risk and do new things.
What made Abraham's decision easy? Was it the result? Was it the reward? Or is it because the place that they were staying was uncomfortable? The Lord says: I will show you. I will make you. I will bless you. I will make your name great. I will bless those who bless you. Whomever curses you I will curse.
It was just the Word of God, the Character of God and the Promise of God that made Abraham to move out. Didn't the Lord find someone younger? The Lord's choosing is not based on age, experience or qualification, but the Lord was looking for a person with a willing heart, a heart that was obedient, a heart that trusted him without murmuring or hesitating, a heart that obeyed without hesitating. Abraham did just that.
As people grow older, their security lies in their possession of things, their environment, and the place where they stay. But Abraham just moved out trusting the Lord and His promises.
We see many times the Lord saying: I will. It is the certainty of the Lord and His character that helped Abraham move out.
The only way to experience the promise of God is by letting go what we are holding on to and trust Him totally. We don't experience the fullness of His promise because we don't want to let go what we are familiar with. We need to let go in order to experience His best. Abraham's obedience in that place was a blessing to the nation. Who knows? Our obedience will go a long way in being a blessing to a generation. Are we preventing the Lord to use us from being effective to a generation? What is it that is holding us back? What is our security? What are we comfortable with? Can we just let go?
We will never experience the promise of the Lord unless and until we let go. Abraham did not know where he was going. All that he knew was that the One whom he obeyed and followed would never let him down.
Abraham left. Trusting. Obeying. Believing the character of God, the Word of God, and the promise of God.
What else do we need? Are there some challenges? Is the Lord telling us to let go? Shall we trust Him and move forward? His promises are true. His character is unchangeable. His Word is eternal.
Let us trust Him and obey Him and experience the promise that He has for each one of us. The One who watches over us is the one who sustains us.
In Christian life, it is not how far we jump that matters, but on whose Word we are jumping that matters.
