A Moment With GodНамуна
POWERFUL WEAPON
But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
Paul, Silas and Timothy had visited a home and had fellowship there. They were moving from there to a place of prayer. Their encounter with the authorities happened midway when they were dragged by people to the authorities.
The path to spirituality is filled with challenges.
But, a place of pain can become an opportunity for praise.
How is this possible?
v22 – 24: They prayed when they should have been groaning in pain. The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods. After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.
v19 – 21: They prayed when they should have been discussing the injustice done to them. When her owners realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities. They brought them before the magistrates and said, “These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar by advocating customs unlawful for us Romans to accept or practice.”
v25: They prayed when they should have been sleeping. About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.
v25: They prayed when they should have been complaining to the Lord. They were praising God and singing hymns.
V25: They prayed loudly when they should have been whispering.
The secret of overcoming our troubles and problems is just to praise God.
Let us not look for an audience in prayer. It is the heart language of God and us. In prayer, we don’t impress people nor do we impress God. In prayer, God impresses upon us the need to depend and wait.
We think that prayer should always be long and loaded with words. It need not be that. Prayer must be from the heart, loaded with truth.
So, why waste too many words in prayer when the Lord looks only at your heart.
Prayer is a powerful weapon that is with us. Would we take it and use it as a weapon of praise and thanksgiving?
Prayer is a powerful weapon in our hands.
