Galatians 5
In Galatians 5, we see how the Holy Spirit is in the business of transforming our lives into the perfect Bride of Christ. We have hope that He is able to make us righteous if we have faith in Jesus. Paul makes it clear: “All that matters now is faith demonstrated through love.”
The freedom Christ gives us is the gift NOT to get entangled in sin. Think about the word “entangled”. The Passion Translation (TPT) says this: Do not “set up a base of operations in the natural realm.” Instead, I am to find the freedom of being a servant to others.
My freedom is forfeited if I believe a lie instead of God’s truth about anything because it can permeate your entire belief system, or “a little yeast ruins the whole batch,” and can lead to works of the flesh he describes. For too long, I believed a lie that I could only approach God with “major issues,” which resulted in some of those “minor issues” robbing my freedom!
The Spirit, mentioned often in this chapter, is to lead us and produce fruit. Our part is to yield, to surrender. The fruits (TPT): “Divine love in all its varied expressions, joy that overflows, peace that subdues, patience that endures, kindness in action, a life full of virtue, faith that prevails, gentleness of heart, and strength of spirit.”
Prayer: Lord, help me constantly love others and be committed to serving them, and by doing so, I yield to the Spirit’s planting a garden in my heart. In Jesus’ beautiful name, AMEN.
