Daily Bible Reading — Sustained By God’s Word Of FaithChikamu
May 9
Introduction
After the death of Othniel, the people of Israel sinned against the LORD again. This time they were subject to the King of Moab for eighteen years. Once again the people cried out to the LORD for deliverance, and the LORD sent Ehud to free them. Ehud slays the Moabite king, the Israelites defeat their enemies, and there is peace in the land for eighty years. The reading concludes with a brief mention of Israel’s next leader, Shamgar.
Today’s Scripture: Judges 3:27b
[Ehud] blew a trumpet to call the people of Israel to battle; then he led them down from the hills.
Today’s Reading
Judges 3:12-31
Reflect
Today’s reading gives a detailed description of the manner in which King Eglon of Moab was killed by Ehud. What are your thoughts about the way Ehud carried out his plan? Ehud is described as being left-handed (verse 15). Why is that significant in today’s reading?
Pray
God of deliverance, your mercy and love surround me daily. Teach me to heed and obey your voice and grow in knowledge of you. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those seeking to flee from violence and danger
