Read To Me Daily Semester 2

DAY 39 OF 86

JOSHUA 18-19:
In our reading yesterday in the book of Joshua, we heard the details about Mannaseh and Ephraim's allotment of land. I suggest that it will be very helpful for your understanding of these chapters in Joshua to do an Internet search for “map tribes Israel.”

PSALM 75:
Today’s psalm is chapter 75. Do you remember what Paul talked to Felix about from yesterday’s reading? Asaph’s psalm takes a similar theme.

ACTS 25:
As we heard yesterday in Acts, Paul's accusers came, and Paul defended himself before the governor. The governor put off making a decision, and never got around to making one. One day at the beginning of that time, he and his Jewish wife came to listen to Paul for a little entertainment. But Felix cut the discussion short when Paul meddled a little too much. Paul stayed there in jail for two long years and never gave a bribe to Felix. Finally, Felix left Paul in prison when he was replaced by Festus.

Let’s pray.
We come to you, our sovereign God and Father. We worship You, knowing that You have a plan for this world, a plan that— according to your Word, was formulated before this world was created.

“You created the day and the night;
You set the sun and the moon in their places;
You set the limits of the earth;
You made summer and winter.”

You made a covenant with your people, and you told them what would happen when they broke it. It didn’t take long for them to be unfaithful to You— just as You knew they would be. At the times You punished them, they would come back to You, but their devotion never lasted very long. And finally, You did just as you promised in causing their enemies to totally defeat them and take them away into exile. The temple and all the sacred symbols of your presence were taken away. You allowed Israel’s enemies to laugh at You. But it was not that You had become weak and powerless. In your strength, You lifted your hands and allowed all that You had promised beforehand to happen. So, Lord, in our day, it often seems to us that You have put your hands behind your back, or that You have gone asleep. How we wish You would judge those who insult You.

“Rouse yourself, O God, and defend your cause!
Remember that godless people laugh at you all day long.
Don’t forget the angry shouts of your enemies,
The continuous noise made by your foes.”
“Don’t abandon us— your helpless people to our cruel enemies;
Don’t forget your persecuted people!”

We choose to trust and worship You, our God and Savior, no matter what.
