DEUTERONOMY 17-18:
In the book of Deuteronomy, yesterday we heard about the release of debts and slaves in the Jubilee Year (also called the Year of Restoration), and a reminder about 100% participation for the males in three festivals.

PSALM 58:
Today I invite you to pray along with the psalmist who wrote Psalm 58, asking God to give justice to His people. This psalm begins with the writer speaking to evil rulers and judges. (He doesn’t anticipate that those evil people are actually listening, but this is a rhetorical device called apostrophe.) The writer calls God to take action, and ends his poem trusting that God will make things right and godly people will rejoice.

ACTS 13a:
In yesterday’s reading of Acts, we heard how Herod decided to go after the top apostles, killing James. But Peter escaped. As a result, 16 soldiers died. Then Herod met his richly deserved end.

Today for our prayer, I will read the words of Charles Wesley’s famous hymn, And can it be.

And can it be that I should gain
An int’rest (a share) in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain—
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
