Read To Me Daily Semester 2

DAY 16 OF 86

DEUTERONOMY 9-10:
In yesterday’s reading in Deuteronomy, Moses continued his stern lecture. I note particularly that Moses did all he could to stress that the Israelites must not get proud, or think they’re great people based on their own merits. The reading also included the famous words, “people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.”

PSALM 54:
And when we turn to the book of Psalms, Psalm 54 is a short cry for help, when David was under severe stress and being attacked.

ACTS 10a:
We are prepared for today's reading of Acts 10 by the two notable miracles performed by Peter in Acts chapter 9.

Let’s pray.
Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are a loving and promise-keeping God! Moses told the people, “The Lord did not love you and choose you because you outnumbered other peoples. You were the smallest nation on Earth! But the Lord loved you, and wanted to keep the promise He made to your ancestors.” We praise You that you are faithful to your promises and that You love us! And Moses told them not to become proud when they entered the promised land and became wealthy and prosperous. They were not to think that this was because of their own power and strength. So Lord, keep us from all forms of pride. We humble ourselves before You, and we should because You tell us that we have all turned away and that we are all equally bad. Not one of us does what is right! And You emphasize that by adding, “not a single one.” But it's only because You love us through Christ Jesus, and it's only because You have been faithful to your promises, that we can come into your presence in prayer. Because of your love, Lord, we can believe the promises that You are with us. You were with Saul— not only when You appeared to him, but also when he was blind, not only when he defeated the reasoning of the Jews in Damascus, but also when he was lowered in a basket. You were with Peter when he boldly proclaimed healing to Aeneus, and You were with him when he needed to pray for your direction at the bed of Tabitha. So even when we do not think of You, Lord, we pray that You would be with us today.
