Day 4: Haman
Esther was queen! To celebrate, King Xerxes threw a party and gave gifts to all his nobles. One of these nobles was named Haman. He was the most important noble in Persia, and King Xerxes ordered everyone to kneel when Haman walked by.
However, Mordecai refused to bow to Haman. Mordecai would only bow to God. When Haman saw that Mordecai wouldn't bow to him, he was furious! He wanted to kill Mordecai.
But then Haman found out that Mordecai was a Jew. Suddenly, Haman decided that it wasn't enough to kill just Mordecai. Haman wanted to kill all of Mordecai's friends and family too! Haman wanted to kill every Jew in Persia!
Haman went to King Xerxes and said, “King, some people in your kingdom disobey you! Let me destroy them!”
King Xerxes didn’t realize that his own Queen, Esther, would be killed as well. He told Haman, "Go ahead, kill these people."
Something terrible was about to happen to God's people. What do you think God could do to save Esther, Mordecai, and all the Jewish people?
