Flip the Flow - Finding Truth in God's WordSample
Tap Out to Tap In
I was walking out of church one day when I overheard someone say they were “weak.” Immediately, Philippians 4:13 came to mind. Did you know that particular verse isn't the most quoted Bible verse? (John 3:16 is the number one quoted verse.) I repeated Philippians 4:13 to myself as God reminded me of its deeper meaning.
The emphasis of this verse isn’t to feel strong in our own strength or based on our own achievements. Instead, our strength rests on our willingness to allow Christ’s power to sustain us in difficulties.
He also reinforced that He is our source at all times and that it’s His power that enhances our abilities to obey and make a difference for Him. God won’t necessarily remove all of our hard circumstances or fix life’s situations to result in our favor.
Christians don’t have superpowers, nor will we be invincible or immune to life’s challenges. Instead, the promise of
Philippians 4:13, For I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength
depends on Him for our strength, it’s not about achieving personal desires, but about enduring and remaining faithful to God amidst adversity.
This verse is part of Paul’s address to the church of Phillipi regarding the endless strength Christ possesses, a supernatural strength that meets every one of our needs.
No doubt Paul faced many trials and endured many challenges during his ministry. And for certain, so did Christ. Despite the intense suffering Jesus endured and that of Paul, they both knew it was the strength of Heaven they were able to tap into.
Jesus’ strength is our only sustainability. The strength and perseverance that come from a relationship with Christ enables and empowers us to face any circumstances in life. It's important to believe that when God asks you to do something, He is able to provide the strength you need and the power to overcome.
The joy found in overcoming is dependent on Christ. When He is the center of life’s challenges, it’s Him we can fix our eyes on and receive our true peace. When we experience Him, we are truly strengthened!
Let’s no longer reflect the humanized source of strength. Let’s shine out His supernatural abilities and tell others that His strength is available for us to tap into, especially when we feel like tapping out.
