The Sky’s the Limit, Innit? Learning to Thrive Within Your Limits

DAY 2 OF 7

Loved Beyond Limit

I wanted to start today by saying that God is unlimited. I think there can be a worry when we talk about accepting and operating within our limits, that it may mean we live small, mediocre, risk-free lives. That’s the opposite of what I believe. I believe that once we understand and work within our limits, our lives can expand and be more effective in our service to God.

Christians worship an Almighty God who created this incredible world. Our God is everywhere – all-seeing, all-knowing, and always loving. His mercy, kindness, grace, patience, power, joy, peace, and forgiveness are unlimited.

Embracing our limits is not a call to live small. I believe that God can do the impossible. You can read about a humanly impossible situation I experienced in my book ‘When God “Buts” In’. I clung to faith through a challenging time, believing that my limitless God was on the case, and He miraculously turned the situation around. I trusted in Him to do this by reminding myself daily that my faith is in an awesome, wonder-working, promise-keeping God. The God who worked miraculously and displayed unlimited power, wisdom, and authority throughout scripture. The God who knows us intimately and loves us infinitely.

If you are praying some big, bold prayers, that you know are beyond your human limits then be encouraged. The God who created the sky, the Russian rooftoppers are trying to reach, is on your side. His power is unlimited. If you are a Christian, though you are a limited human, you have an unlimited God and so the potential of your life is immense. Unlike the unharnessed, unrestricted (and unhinged if you ask me) rooftoppers, I believe our limits are there to protect and propel us, rather than restrict and retract us. We can climb higher when we recognize and work within them. When listened to, our limits act as a safety harness, protecting us from injury, and burnout and pulling us back from challenges never meant for us. This ensures we have energy, enthusiasm, passion, and capacity for the challenging climbs and callings that have our names all over them.

Reflection

Spend some time reflecting on God’s unlimited nature. Thank him for the specific aspects of this that come to your mind.

About this Plan

The Sky’s the Limit, Innit? Learning to Thrive Within Your Limits

Inspired by the ‘Skywalkers’ documentary on Netflix, this plan examines the theme of the limits we face in our daily lives. It encourages us to learn to recognize, embrace and thrive within our limits. If properly listened to, our limits can actually help to provide focus for our lives and propel us forward, rather than hinder and restrict us.
