The Sky’s the Limit, Innit? Learning to Thrive Within Your Limits

DAY 1 OF 7

On Top of the World

Have you seen the Netflix documentary, ‘Skywalkers – A Love Story’? What a stressful, intriguing, edge-of-the-seat watch! It’s about a young Russian couple, Angela and Vanya, who are ‘rooftoppers’. This sport involves climbing up the tallest buildings in the world completely unaided by safety harnesses. They do an array of crazy poses at the top of various structures and then post their lofty ledge leanings on Instagram to hundreds of thousands of followers. It’s a truly terrifying documentary to watch – I hid behind a cushion for a lot of it feeling nauseous! I can’t relate to them at all as I’m more of a ‘KitKat Chunky’ than an ‘adrenaline junkie’ type person! Curled up with a weighted blanket on the couch is exhilarating enough for me! I can see that for the thrill-seeking type, getting up that high must be insanely exciting and awe-inspiring to view the world from their vantage points. They are fearless, fit, and have unusual acrobatic abilities and balance skills. But what they are doing is way beyond reckless and dangerous, plus it’s also illegal! It’s an activity that will never pass a risk assessment or their family's approval! Vanya says, ‘The higher I went, the easier it was to breathe.’ Well, I could hardly breathe just watching them!

Angela the girl rooftopper says, ‘Limits only exist in our minds.’ I've been reflecting on limits a lot over the last few years, thankfully from the safety of my couch. Throughout the next week, let's reflect on learning to thrive within our limits. I once felt that limits were a bad thing – particularly as a Christian who worships an all-powerful, limitless God. However, I’m feeling quite differently about limits these days. While I believe there are occasions for them to be smashed through, I now see how limits exist to aid and propel us forward, not to hinder and prevent our progress. I’ll share my journey of embracing and working within my limits and the circumstances that led to this learning experience. Our limited lives are short, and I want to encourage us to reach our full potential. So, strap yourself in, don’t look down, and let’s vertigo for it!

About this Plan

The Sky’s the Limit, Innit? Learning to Thrive Within Your Limits

Inspired by the ‘Skywalkers’ documentary on Netflix, this plan examines the theme of the limits we face in our daily lives. It encourages us to learn to recognize, embrace and thrive within our limits. If properly listened to, our limits can actually help to provide focus for our lives and propel us forward, rather than hinder and restrict us.
