Through the Bible: NumbersSample
The Promised Land
These are the commands and regulations the Lord gave through Moses to the Israelites on the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho.
Numbers 36:13 (ESV)
Numbers finishes with the Israelites across from Jericho, looking into the Promised Land. 38 years of wandering in the wilderness, testing God’s patience with their rebellion. But God showed His faithfulness. They were now equipped to enter into the Promised Land, transformed into an organized people with God’s commands and regulations.
Do we sometimes feel we are in the wilderness, grumbling and rebellious? Let’s have a humble and soft heart, being obedient to God’s guiding hand. Let’s not resent God’s commands and regulations, because they are a part of God’s plan.
So what is the Promised Land for us today? God has promised us a heavenly home where Christ dwells with us, and the way to enter is through Jesus Christ.
Despite the trials of daily life, let’s have the promise of eternal life inscribed in our hearts, assured of our ultimate home in heaven. When it’s time for us to go home to the Father, we will dwell with Him forever.
Prayer:
Father God, help us to live righteously, worshipping You with our words and works, relying on Your promise of eternal life. Help us to be driven to Jesus to find our righteousness in Him, to fear God and keep His word.
About this Plan
The book of Numbers, as the Hebrew name suggests, is the Israelites’ travelogue in the wilderness, from Mount Sinai to the plains of Moab, right before entering the Promised Land. Because of the Israelites’ disobedience, the 11-day journey turned to 40 years! But rest assured, God always restore His people to the place of blessings as soon as we return to Him. Come journey through Numbers with us.
