Through the Bible: Numbers

DAY 8 OF 14

Spirit of Rebellion

He stood between the living and the dead, and the plague stopped.
Numbers 16:48 (NIV)

In today’s reading, we read about the Children of Israel rebelling against Moses’ leadership and God.

There was brewing dissatisfaction among the leaders and their lack of faith resulted in a series of poor decisions. It was their spirit of rebellion that breached their relationship with God and prevented them from enjoying the fulfillment of God’s promises.

Despite the rebellion, both Moses and Aaron step into the gap to atone for their sins. Likewise, Jesus took upon Himself to atone for our sins. When we were still sinners, Jesus was the one who stood before the Father interceding for us. He stands in that gap between the Father and us and brings the two together.

Let us check our hearts and see if there is a spirit of rebellion in us. Are we teachable? Does pride rule us? Are we submissive to the leadership that God has anointed over us, or do we live in rebellion against that authority?

Every one of us must repent of that rebellious nature and choose to follow Jesus and come under His authority as our Lord and King.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, You have searched me and You know my heart. I ask that You lead me in everlasting ways. Let me live my life in active faith and walk closer to You every day. Thank You for Your Word today and help me apply it to my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Numbers

The book of Numbers, as the Hebrew name suggests, is the Israelites’ travelogue in the wilderness, from Mount Sinai to the plains of Moab, right before entering the Promised Land. Because of the Israelites’ disobedience, the 11-day journey turned to 40 years! But rest assured, God always restore His people to the place of blessings as soon as we return to Him. Come journey through Numbers with us.
