Day 2 Overcoming Unbelief
In Joshua 2 we learn with Joshua how to overcome unbelief. Joshua sends spies into the city of Jericho to access the best way to take the city. They find themselves in a prostitute’s house named Rahab. Rahab is very special to God. God even lists Rahab in His Hall of Faith in Hebrews. In Hebrews 11 we read about people like Isaac and Jacob and Joseph and Abraham and Moses. Before each of their names, the writer of Hebrews writes, by faith this person did this, or by faith this person did that. Rahab joins these giants in the faith in Hebrews 11:31. In Hebrews 11: 31 we read, “By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient.”
How I want us to have what Rahab had. To the world, what Rahab had probably didn’t amount to much. The world would label her a prostitute, a castaway, someone who made some bad choices or someone who was born into some pretty unforgiving life situations. To the world, Rahab was a prostitute. To God Rahab was a princess. Rahab’s story is a story of faith. Rahab shows her belief in the things of God and in God when she says to the spies, “I know that the Lord has given you this land and a great fear has fallen on us.”
Those that believe God and don’t just believe in God use the word know, not hope. The truth is, we have to know! We have to know that a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven. We can’t just hope that it is. We have to know that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forevermore. We can’t just hope that He is. We have to know that with God all things are possible. We can’t just hope it. We have to know that we are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus. We can’t just hope it. We have to know that we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. We can’t just hope it.
Hebrews 11 kind of faith, Rahab kind of faith, is a faith of knowing, not hoping.
