DAY 20 OF 82

2KINGS 1:
Yesterday in the final two chapters of 1st Kings, we heard stories which show that King Ahab indeed “sold himself to evil,” including the story of Naboth's vineyard. And also we heard of Ahab's friendship with King Jehoshaphat of Judah. Finally we heard how the prophecies against Ahab were fulfilled.

PSALM 123:
Today’s poem, Psalm 123, has an important similarity with Ps. 121 which said,

Ps. 121:1 NLT I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
who made heaven and earth!

Rather than where to look, today’s psalm tells us how to ‘look’.

JOHN 10b:
We return today to the second half of John chapter 10. In John 9, with the formerly blind man kneeling there, Jesus said,

9:39 NLT “I entered this world to render judgment—to give sight to the blind and to show those who think they see that they are blind.”
40 Some Pharisees who were standing nearby heard him and asked, “Are you saying we’re blind?”
41 “If you were blind, you wouldn’t be guilty,” Jesus replied. “But you remain guilty because you claim you can see.

I think that the formerly blind man would have been greatly comforted to find out that the Son of Man was now his shepherd and the gate for the sheep. John 10:10 is a frequently memorized verse because of Jesus’ promise: Life in all its fullness.

Let’s pray.
Lord Jesus, how precious this chapter is to us! Yes, we rejoice to be your sheep. We rejoice that You know us ever so deeply, so that you compare your knowledge of us to how intimately You know the Father. We rejoice that we have heard your voice and followed you. You called each of us by name! We are chosen and safe in your care! And You give us spiritual discernment so that we do not follow the voices of thieves and false shepherds when they call us. How much You love us— even so much that You laid down your life for us. We rejoice that we— who were not part of the original flock— have now heard your voice also, and there will one day be one flock, with only You as the shepherd. You are also the gate for the sheep. Through You we safely enter in and go out. You save us and give us life in all its fullness. Through You we become a spiritual temple, and we rejoice with our fellow pilgrims, saying, “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the Lord’s house!’ And now here we are, standing inside the gates of (the spiritual) Jerusalem.” You welcome us home.
