DAY 12 OF 15

Don’t Deserve You: Plumb

Birthdays are kinda awesome when you think about it. Everybody has one, and everybody for one day a year, gets to be the birthday boy/girl. Perhaps the best part about a birthday, is receiving gifts. When you think about it, you get presents for simply just existing. You didn’t really do anything to earn it, or else it would no longer be considered a gift. When you receive money or an item in exchange for doing something, that’s not a gift. We call that a job!

When you think about God’s love for us in salvation, the best way to describe it is, a gift. It’s free, it’s unearned, and it’s given with joy! Think about that for a second, God gave His only Son Jesus, as a sacrifice so that we could be in relationship with Him. What a crazy sacrifice so that He could give us the gift of salvation.

When I think about that, I’m left thinking, “Wow, I don’t really deserve that.” And the truth is, we don’t. We all have sin, we all have shortcomings, and we have all messed up in our lives, yet still a God who is PERFECT loves us just the way we are. It’s so easy for us to lose sight of just how undeserving we are of this love. It’s so easy to lose sight of how great the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross, and it’s so easy to develop a sense of complacency towards this GIFT of salvation.

Wherever you’re at today, take a few minutes and begin to thank God for His love. Thank God for the gift of salvation that we didn’t deserve, and give Him praise for loving us unconditionally.
