Who Is God: Devotions From Time of GraceSample
His mercy is bigger than my sins
I am all in favor of people getting what they have coming. When people vandalize my flowers, break my windows, or steal my stuff, I fantasize, just like you, about divine vengeance coming down on them.
I am all for quick and severe justice, but only on other people, of course. One of the things I love about God is his patience with me. I love how his mercy is bigger than my sins against him. King David tells us in Psalm 103 that the Lord “does not treat us as our sins deserve. . . . [He] has compassion on those who fear him” (verses 10,13).
God chooses to treat me as a work in progress, and that inspires me to be patient with the other sinners around me.
