The Lord’s PrayerSample

Our Father in Heaven
When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He began with two powerful words: “Our Father.” Not everyone can truly say this. While God is the Creator of all, He becomes Father in a personal and relational way only to those who belong to Him through Jesus. Jesus said to the Pharisees who were challenging Him, “If God were your Father, you would love me” (John 8:42). To call God “Father” is to love and follow Jesus.
Jesus was specific—He didn’t just say “your Father,” but "your Father in heaven." Not to be confused with an earthly dad, this is the Almighty, Everlasting, All-Knowing Creator of all. He is the Father who not only made you, but also gave you breath today. He is self-sufficient—needing nothing—yet we need everything from Him. He is eternal, without beginning or end, and His wisdom is flawless.
Romans 8:15 reminds us that we have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’ Through Jesus, we are part of God’s family.
Respond to God’s Word:
Spend time in prayer calling God “Father.” Express gratitude for His presence in your life.
About this Plan

Sometimes we don’t think we can learn anything else from something in particular because we’re so familiar with it. The disciples of Jesus were familiar with prayer. They must have heard countless people pray in their life. But when they saw Jesus praying, they were teachable enough to ask him, “Lord, teach us to pray.” Sometimes thinking you have it all figured out will keep you from truly figuring it out. Step into this prayer with a receptive heart and see how God brings you to a fuller understanding of His teaching.
