Listening to God's VoiceSample

Hearing Through Scripture
The Psalmist declares, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” God speaks powerfully through His Word, the Bible. The Scripture is filled with God’s wisdom, guidance, and love for us. As we read and study the Scripture, the Holy Spirit illuminates its meaning and applies it to our lives.
Hearing God’s voice through scriptures isn’t just about reading ancient texts; it’s about encountering the living God through His Word, the Word that illuminates our daily steps and the direction of our lives. Afterall, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Tim 3:16-17)
Furthermore, the Psalmist speaks of a “light to my path.” This extends beyond the immediate. It suggests that God’s Word provides a broader perspective. It’s like a beacon in the distance, offering direction and hope for the journey ahead, even when the next few steps are unclear.
Think of a dark night. Each step could lead to a stumble, uncertainty, and fear can creep in. But a lamp, even a small one, casts enough light to reveal the immediate path ahead, preventing missteps, falls, and accidents. God’s Word functions similarly. As we read the Scripture, whether through a familiar verse or a new passage, it shines light on the decisions before us, often offering wisdom and guidance for our present circumstances.
Hearing God’s voice through Scripture is a gentle illumination, a quiet conviction that resonates within our hearts as we meditate on His truth. It requires intentionality – a willingness to open the Bible not just as a book, but as a means through which God speaks to us through His Word. As we consistently turn to the Bible, we learn to recognize His voice, trust in His wisdom and guidance, and walk with bold confidence in the light that He so graciously provides.
Reflection
How often do we turn to the Bible to hear from God? Are we reading it consistently and thoughtfully, allowing its truths to shape our thoughts and actions? God’s Word isn’t just an old book; it’s a living message that speaks directly to us today.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for giving us your Word. Help me to approach it with an open heart and mind, eager to hear what you want to teach me. May your Word be a constant source of light and guidance in my life. Amen.

About this Plan

Have you ever asked the question, “If God still speaks today?” Or "How to tell if it’s truly Him who is speaking?" As believers, learning to listen to God’s voice is one of the most important parts of our relationship with Him. Listening to God’s voice is not about hearing an audible voice from the sky—though that can happen—but about learning to recognise how God speaks through the Scripture, the Holy Spirit, and through God’s people and circumstances. Over the next 7 days, we’ll explore stories in the Bible where God spoke to ordinary people, just like us.
