• Jesus heals a blind man using an uncommon method, as He wished to prove that there is no healing “ritual”. The Work of the NEW COVENANT that He brings is not a cookie-cutter one, and only those who are enlightened by the Holy Spirit can understand it.

• People are not quick to believe and to rejoice, but rather look for all kinds of reasons not to believe.

• Jesus uses this instance to speak about healing the blindness of the soul, which is a priority for His Work here on Earth.

• Their biggest problem was that they didn’t admit to being spiritually blind, which made their spiritual healing impossible.

Healing this blind man and people’s reactions to it unveils another obstacle regarding the acceptance of the KINGDOM OF GOD – not admitting sin. The disciples were inclined to think that man’s blindness was somehow connected to his sin or to the sin of previous generations. Jesus’ answer stands as a lesson to us all, for we are always in a hurry to judge certain people or circumstances.

Whenever tragedy strikes someone around them, people tend to immediately associate the event with a divine punishment. While they might be right sometimes, JESUS offers them a lesson that we should also heed: there are circumstances when certain things happen just because GOD wants to glorify His Name. Since we cannot access Absolute Truth, we must give up trying to find reasons behind everything that happens to those around us.

JESUS uses this instance to speak about the spiritual blindness that affects people in a much more serious manner than physical blindness, but which finds healing in Him. The problem with spiritual blindness is that people are not willing to admit that they are spiritually blind, and this denial keeps them blind, even though they might think they see clearly.

To this day, there are many who remain outside of the KINGDOM, not because they are blind, but rather, because they will not admit to their state of sin and think themselves to be good enough to get to Heaven. GOD looks at any humbled heart, at any man who is ready to admit his spiritual blindness and incapacity and comes to JESUS to receive forgiveness and healing.
