Storm WatchSample

One of the best things about watching the show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire was seeing if a contestant would use one of their “lifelines” to phone a friend. If the contestant was faced with a difficult question that they didn’t know the answer to on their own, all they had to do was ask and they would be connected with a friend or loved one who would often jump in and save the day. Even if they never had to use it, I’m sure it was a comfort to know that when a contestant came across something they didn’t think they could handle on their own, help was only a call away. Life is a lot like that, too…except we aren’t all hoping to answer a few questions to try and win a million dollars.
Many of us have friends, family, and trusted leaders whom we can turn to when life throws us some unexpected curveballs. But as helpful as they can be, they don’t usually have the power to turn the situation around. Often, all they can do is be a support and offer an encouraging word. But believers know that they have the ultimate lifeline with unlimited uses. When we encounter tough situations or unwinnable odds, all we have to do is call upon Jesus, who is there no matter what. Of course, it may not resolve itself in the way that we want, but we can rest in the knowledge that our lifeline will always come through and have a bigger picture in mind for our good.

About this Plan

We all experience storms—not just physical storms but also storms due to personal circumstances. Our lives are suddenly hit with waves of scary decisions or are rocked by situations completely out of our control. We’ll discover what it looks like when God uses storms to get our attention, to help us see how God can use the storms of life in unexpected ways, and also remind ourselves and each other that, even in the eye of a terrible storm, we are never alone.
