Storm WatchSample

Fear is not a new concept. The word “fear” is mentioned quite a few times in Scripture (of course, this completely depends on which translation you use). And no matter how many times we read it, with various iterations like “fear not” or be not afraid,” the sentiment itself never really changes. When facing the things that bring us the most fear, God tells us to choose a different path. To not give in to the fear and panic that so many of us feel as though we face on a daily basis. Fear tells us that we aren’t able to handle anything on our own, which is not always untrue. But God reminds us that, as believers, we never have to handle it alone again.
There is no expectation to face your fears on your own strength or that we should handle all that comes our way with a smile on our faces. Instead, God calls us to lean on the strength that only He can provide. What are some areas in your life where you may have been trusting in your own strength instead of depending on what God has to offer? It may be helpful to list some circumstances that you face on a daily, weekly, or even yearly basis. Once you’ve written your list, take a second to write down “do not fear” next to each entry. It may be helpful to read over your list when you feel any sense of fear or panic as you go throughout your week.

About this Plan

We all experience storms—not just physical storms but also storms due to personal circumstances. Our lives are suddenly hit with waves of scary decisions or are rocked by situations completely out of our control. We’ll discover what it looks like when God uses storms to get our attention, to help us see how God can use the storms of life in unexpected ways, and also remind ourselves and each other that, even in the eye of a terrible storm, we are never alone.
