Rooted in the Word: Biblical LiteracySample

I remember checking into a beautiful hotel and being impressed by all the little luxuries in the room. There were plush robes, soft slippers, and a tray of premium snacks. But I didn’t dare touch them—I assumed they came with an outrageous price tag. I had heard stories of people getting charged hundreds of dollars for using items in a hotel room, and I didn’t want any surprises on my bill. So, I ignored them, thinking they were off-limits.
It wasn’t until I was checking out that I found out the truth—everything was included! The robes, the slippers, and even the snacks were already paid for. I had spent the entire stay missing out on what was freely available to me simply because I didn’t realize it belonged to me.
This experience reminded me of how many of us treat God’s Word. We assume it’s meant for pastors, theologians, or scholars, not for us. We hesitate to fully embrace it, thinking it might not apply to our daily struggles. But the Bible isn’t just for an elite few—it’s for YOU.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” God has already given us everything we need in His Word, but too often, we fail to appreciate it.
Sometimes, the wisdom, direction, and comfort we desperately seek are already in the Bible, but we overlook it. Instead of searching for answers elsewhere, we should open His Word with expectation, knowing that it was written for us. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” God’s guidance is not hidden—it’s freely given to those who seek it.
Don’t let the treasures of Scripture go untouched. Everything God has spoken is for you, to equip you, strengthen you, and lead you in His perfect will.
Reflection Questions:
1. Do you ever feel like the Bible is for others but not for you? Why?
2. What is one area of your life where you need God’s guidance right now?
3. How can you begin treating Scripture as a personal gift rather than something distant or difficult to understand?
