Acts - Until Everyone Knows

DAY 1 OF 28

Acts 1

The Book of Acts (of the Apostles) is the second volume of writings by Luke, and so it picks up straight after the end of his Gospel. In the first few verses, Luke says that he was revealing all the things Jesus began to do, insinuating that this second account will talk about all that Jesus continued to do via the Holy Spirit.

In short, Acts isn’t really just about the apostles, it’s a continuation of the story of Jesus! There are two main points in this first chapter - firstly, the repeated command to wait for the Holy Spirit (Luke 24:49, Acts 1:4-5) and secondly, the empowering of the Spirit that will enable the followers of Jesus to be His witnesses in the world (Acts 1:8).

Acts 1 is clear – you need the Holy Spirit! But you might be aware of your shortcomings - doing things in your own strength or telling yourself that God could never use you. Develop the practice of waiting and giving space for the Holy Spirit to fill you. Jesus wanted His apostles to wait for the gift of the Spirit before starting God’s Mission, and you can do the same.

Thank You, God, for the Gift of your Holy Spirit. Help me to leave space every day to be filled afresh. Even right now, please fill me, so that I can be Your witness today. Amen.

About this Plan

Acts - Until Everyone Knows

In Acts, we read about the Early Church taking its first steps to go out to the nations. This happened because ordinary people were filled with the Holy Spirit, enabling them to share the Good News of Jesus and bring healing and freedom. God has designed you to walk in the same Power today! As you learn from this Book, one chapter a day, and read the Devotional, consider this question: How can I step out more to share the Good News of Jesus in the Power of the Holy Spirit?
