The Strength of Weakness

DAY 6 OF 7

Peter: the impulsive disciple

Peter, originally a simple fisherman, became one of Jesus' closest disciples. His story is marked by moments of great faith, but also by human frailty. At first, Peter showed extraordinary courage, as when he walked on the water toward Jesus, but as soon as he noticed the strong wind, he doubted and began to sink. This episode reflects his impulsive nature, which often led him to speak before thinking.

Another significant moment was when Jesus asked him, during the Last Supper, if he would be willing to follow Him to the death. Peter, with all his ardor, declared that he would give his life for Him, but Jesus warned him that he would deny Him three times before the rooster crowed. Despite his promise, Peter, under the pressure of fear, denied Jesus in his hour of need.

After Jesus’ resurrection, Peter faced his failure. However, Jesus, in His love and grace, restored him. In a meeting on the seashore, Jesus asked Peter three times if he loved Him, reiterating His forgiveness and His invitation to feed His sheep.

Peter later became a key leader in the early Church. His courage and preaching brought thousands to faith. Despite his weaknesses, he became the inspired person to whom Jesus would reveal the greatness of His Church (Matthew 16:18).

Peter’s story teaches us that despite our failures, God can still use each of us for extraordinary purposes. Like Peter, we can feel overwhelmed by fear and weakness, but God’s grace restores us and calls us to follow Him in faith. The Church is not built on perfect people, but on hearts willing to respond to His love and learn from their mistakes.

About this Plan

The Strength of Weakness

God has a strange habit: He chooses the imperfect and unsuitable people to do His great works. Not superheroes, not the strongest or the bravest, but precisely those who feel too weak, insecure and, let's face it, sometimes even a little disastrous. And yet, it is precisely on them that God builds His plan, transforming them with His love and grace. A bit like a craftsman who takes a block of rough marble and, with patience and mastery, creates an extraordinary work.
