More Than Just a Story - the Book of JohnSample

"I Am He".
In the Hebrew text, the phrase "I Am" is from the name "Yahweh". In the old testament this name is used over 6,500 times.
It is interesting as you read this passage that it is described that a detachment of soldiers and officers came to arrest Jesus. I believe this shows the magnitude of respect and power they knew could and would follow after him. Even today, a large show of force is reserved for those seen to be the greatest threat or challenge to the status quo. In these times, a detachment of soldiers would have meant that hundreds or thousands of soldiers came for him, and in his statement "I am He" these hundreds or thousands fell at the name of Jesus.
There is power in his name. As Jesus is taken, it is clear that he uses this show of power to protect the disciples but not himself. He has shown the magnitude of power but does not use it to save himself, but those around him.
1. If Jesus knew what was about to happen to him in the Garden, why do you think he chose to go anyways?
2. Where can you display a compassion for others like Jesus does to Judas? What thing have you held against someone, that its time to let go of?
3. I encourage you to take a few minutes to listen to these worship songs and how they are reflected in these verses. Do you hear them differently after reading these scriptures if you have heard them before? Listen to"ForeverYHWH by Elevation Worship"or"The Wonderful Blood by Tiffany Hudson"
