More Than Just a Story - the Book of JohnSample

I find prayer very peaceful, but sometimes it can feel overwhelming. We receive prayer requests from those in need, see people asking for prayers in our social media feeds—often accompanied by praying hands emojis—and carry our own personal burdens in prayer. The list keeps growing and changing.

At the Last Supper, in an intimate conversation with His closest friends, Jesus prayed for Himself, then for His disciples, and finally, for all believers—including us today. He first prayed that all who believe in Him, through the disciples’ proclamation, would be united as one. He prayed for unity so that the world would know what God has done. Then, He prayed for us as believers to be near Him—to dwell in His presence and have continual access to Him.

Jesus loves us so fiercely. This prayer, spoken so long ago yet so remarkably simple, gives me peace. It is an incredible display of His love for us, offered in a moment when He was facing the world’s greatest sacrifice. And it still resonates today. Knowing that Jesus prayed for me eases my sense of overwhelm when I bring my own prayers before Him. It reminds me that He is already interceding on my behalf.
