Reading With the People of God #11 Blessed

DAY 10 OF 31

Focus of the month: (The Beatitudes)

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
5 “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
- Matthew 5:3-12

A House for the Lord

In 1 Kings 6, we read of Solomon beginning the construction of the temple, a long-awaited fulfillment of God’s promise to David (2 Samuel 7:12-13). This temple was not just an architectural marvel; it was the earthly dwelling place of God’s presence among His people. Every detail—the cedar panels, the inner sanctuary, the chambers—was crafted with care, reflecting the holiness of the One who would dwell there.

Yet, the temple was always meant to be more than a building. It was a shadow of something greater to come. The temple symbolized God’s desire to dwell with His people, but it also pointed forward to a deeper reality: the coming of Jesus Christ.

The True Fulfillment

Jesus, in Matthew 5:17-18, declares that He did not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets but to fulfill them. Every sacrifice, every priestly duty, and even the temple itself found its ultimate purpose in Him. The temple Solomon built was a house of stone and wood, but Jesus became the true temple—the very presence of God among us (John 1:14, John 2:19-21).

His words in Matthew remind us that nothing in God’s Word is wasted. Every law, prophecy, and promise was fulfilled in Christ. Just as Solomon’s temple was built with precision, so too was God’s redemptive plan, leading to Jesus as the cornerstone (Ephesians 2:19-22).

Reflection & Application

God dwelled in the temple, but now He dwells in us through Christ, the true fulfillment of the law and the presence of God among us. How does this reality shape the way you live each day, knowing that you are His living temple?

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your perfect plan. Just as You were present in the temple, You are present in us today through Christ. Help us to live as people who reflect Your holiness, walking in the grace and truth of Jesus, in whom all things are fulfilled. Amen.
