What Do Christians Believe?Sample

And we believe in the Holy Spirit … Who spoke by the Prophets
“No prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” (2 Peter 1:20-21)
The Holy Spirit makes people alive, as we saw yesterday. Today we are paying attention to another aspect of the Holy Spirit's work: He has spoken through the prophets. This was often oral, but He also led people to put prophecy in writing. Therefore, the Scriptures thus produced are much more than mere human words. They can “make us wise for salvation.” They have divine authority. As 2 Timothy 3:16 reminds us, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”
The Holy Spirit came in a special way at Pentecost, but was already involved with believers centuries before this happened. Through the prophets, He made known who God is and what God wants from us humans. God's written word is now complete. There is no more new information coming in. But the Spirit still works in the hearts of believers to help them understand who God is and what is His will for their lives.

About this Plan

In 2025, the worldwide church celebrates the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, an assembly representing all of Christendom. At this council, people tried to state and affirm the Christian faith in the triune God. This reading plan studies the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed to see what Christians throughout history have confirmed to be the core of their faith.
