What Do Christians Believe?Sample

And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, and Giver of Life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified
“But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, Who proceeds from the Father, He will bear witness about Me.” (John 15:26)
After the confession statements about God the Father and God the Son, here are some statements about the Holy Spirit. He is as much God as the Father and the Son. He is Lord and thus is rightly worshipped. The Spirit is not merely an animating force in people but God in person. This is also emphasized by saying that the Spirit is the Giver of life. This is something that only God can do, as it is expressed in 1 Samuel 2:6: “The Lord kills and brings to life.”
The life-giving work of the Spirit can already be seen in the creation story. He then hovered over the face of the waters. The life-giving work of the Spirit can also be seen in the lives of believers. He works in their hearts. He renews them and incorporates them into fellowship with Jesus Christ. He delivers them from the power of sin and evil. We read this, among other things, in 2 Corinthians 3:17, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” This same chapter also says that the Spirit transforms believers more and more into the image of God. Everything that is not good in their hearts and lives must disappear and give way to love, joy, and peace — fruits of the Spirit.
Do you experience the work of the Holy Spirit in your life?
About this Plan

In 2025, the worldwide church celebrates the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, an assembly representing all of Christendom. At this council, people tried to state and affirm the Christian faith in the triune God. This reading plan studies the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed to see what Christians throughout history have confirmed to be the core of their faith.
