DAY 11 OF 19

And [Jesus Christ] ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father

So then the Lord Jesus, after He had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.” (Mark 16:19)

Jesus Christ rose from the dead. Many people saw Him afterwards. But Jesus did not stay on earth. His work in this world was finished, and so He went back to heaven. God the Father gave Him a place of honor in the heavenly places, “far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.” (Ephesians 1:20-21) This indicates once again that Jesus is fully God. Therefore, He also receives divine honor.

That place of honor in heaven is not only a recognition of Jesus' deity and a reward for His suffering and death. He also sits there to rule and take care of the interests of His church. He is appointed as head over all for the benefit of the church. (See Ephesians 1:22) The church is described as a body of which Jesus is the head. They belong together. Therefore, before the Lord Jesus returned to heaven, He promised His followers, “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to Myself, that where I am you may be also.” (John 14:3)

Are you a follower of Jesus? How are you connected to Him now that He is in heaven?

About this Plan

What Do Christians Believe?

In 2025, the worldwide church celebrates the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, an assembly representing all of Christendom. At this council, people tried to state and affirm the Christian faith in the triune God. This reading plan studies the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed to see what Christians throughout history have confirmed to be the core of their faith.
