Two and a Half Acres of Faith

DAY 3 OF 7

Day 3: One Step at a Time:

Sterling Miller’s vision of building a church and a school began with a single act of faith. With no resources or guarantees, he paced the land in Lafayette that would one day become The Family Church. The vision was far bigger than his means, and his steps seemed small and insignificant, but they were rooted in an unshakable trust in God. Sterling believed that if God had called him, He would also provide. With no guarantee of success, he measured out the land and prayed, choosing to believe that the God who called him to this task would also equip him to complete it. Each step marked a declaration of faith, a willingness to trust God’s plan over his own limitations.

Sterling’s faith didn’t stop at securing the land. It carried him through years of hard work and perseverance. He faced challenges that could have discouraged him, from limited resources to physical exhaustion. Yet, he chose to move forward one step at a time, trusting that God was “working all things together for good” (Romans 8:28). That same faith sustained him and Jean as they watched their church and school grow into thriving ministries.

However, Sterling and Jean Miller still had a long-awaited dream that was yet to be fulfilled—a family of their own. After years of devastating miscarriages and the stillbirth of their son Mathias, they clung to God’s promises, even when hope seemed distant. Finally, in God’s perfect timing, their long-awaited miracle arrived. Jean gave birth to a healthy baby boy—a tangible reminder of God’s faithfulness and the fulfillment of their prayers. Their son represented more than just a child; he was the embodiment of God’s ability to bring beauty from ashes, proving that what He promises, He will provide.

Their joy in welcoming this miracle child was profound, but life’s challenges didn’t end there. When their son suffered a debilitating injury that left him unable to walk, the Millers once again faced a season of uncertainty and deep reliance on God. Months passed without improvement, and their hearts wrestled with questions and fears. Yet they chose to trust God step by step, believing that the same God who had brought their son into their lives could restore him.

And then, one day, the unexpected happened. Their son stood up and walked again. It was a moment that reminded the Millers—and everyone around them—of God’s power to work all things together for good. Their son’s healing wasn’t just a physical miracle; it was a testament to the importance of trusting God with every step, even when the journey feels overwhelming.

Romans 8:28 reminds us that God is always at work, weaving every detail of our lives into His perfect plan. For the Millers, the years of waiting and heartbreak were not wasted. God used their faithfulness and perseverance to build a legacy that would impact generations. Their story teaches us that even when the journey feels slow, or the obstacles seem insurmountable, God is working all things together for good.

What steps of faith is God asking you to take today? Perhaps you’re waiting for a promise to be fulfilled or facing challenges that feel too great to overcome. Trust that God is working behind the scenes, even when you can’t see it. Surrender your fears and doubts to Him, and take the next step forward, no matter how small it feels.

God’s timing is always perfect, and His faithfulness never fails. Just as He fulfilled His promises to the Millers, He will fulfill His promises to you. Trust Him to guide your steps, bring redemption to your story, and work all things together for good. What He has begun in you, He will bring to completion, one step at a time.
