Day 1: Just Sixty Dollars and a Dream
Welcome to Day 1 of this journey into the transformative power of faith! Today, you are stepping into a story of trust, courage, and obedience that reminds us how one word from God can change everything. Faith is not just about believing in what we can see but trusting in the unseen work of a God who always fulfills His promises.
Sterling and Jean Miller’s story begins with the power of God’s Word. In a moment that could have been overlooked, Sterling received a quiet yet unshakable instruction from God—a word that would change the trajectory of their lives forever. It wasn’t an elaborate vision or a mapped-out plan. It was just one word, simple and clear. Yet within that word lay the power and promise of Isaiah 55:11: what God speaks will not return void but will accomplish His purpose.
When Sterling saw the 2.5-acre piece of land, he felt a divine calling to step out in faith and claim it, not knowing how or when God’s promise would come to fruition. He had only $60 in his pocket—barely enough to make a down payment, let alone build anything. But God’s Word doesn’t require human resources to succeed. Hebrews 4:12 reminds us that His Word is alive, active, and sharp, able to cut through fear, doubt, and impossibility. All God asks is that we trust Him and take the first step.
Faith doesn’t always come with immediate answers or results. It often begins with obedience in the face of uncertainty. As Sterling paced that land, prayed over it, and dared to believe God could use him, he showed what it means to hold onto the power of a single word from God. That word wasn’t just a fleeting thought; it was alive, cutting through doubt and igniting a bold trust in the One who is always faithful.
Perhaps you are in a season where you’re waiting for clarity or feel like the resources at your disposal are inadequate. God’s Word teaches us that the size of our faith isn’t as important as the One in whom we place it. Isaiah 55:11 assures us that if God has spoken, His Word will accomplish exactly what He intended—regardless of how impossible it seems at the moment. And Hebrews 4:12 challenges us to believe in the transformative power of His Word to reshape our circumstances and refine our hearts.
Take a moment to think about the areas in your life where God might be speaking. Are there dreams you’ve been afraid to act on because the path forward feels unclear? Have you discounted yourself because of your limited resources, skills, or confidence? Know this: it is not about what you have or who you are—it is about the God who has called you. His Word will not return void.
Spend time today in prayer, asking God to reveal His Word for your current season. Trust that His promises are alive and active, cutting through every barrier and accomplishing His perfect will. Thank Him for the ways He is already working, even in the unseen. Let His Word be the anchor that holds you steady, no matter what challenges or uncertainties arise.
Faith begins with a word—one that will never return empty. Trust in its power, step forward and watch as God transforms the impossible into a testimony of His faithfulness.
