The Mysteries of PraiseSample
Praise is Unfettered (Paul and Silas)
One of the greatest mistakes a believer can make is thinking Praise is only due to God when things are good. Our Praise must neither be based on external circumstances nor on internal feelings. For both can change. Instead, it must be based on the Only Constant, our Unchanging God who is Ever Faithful.
We see an example of this in Paul and Silas. Imagine the stillness of a prison night interrupted by hymns of Praise ringing out. Who would sing in such a place of despair? Who would Praise in the terror of captivity? Although their bodies were bound in chains, Paul and Silas knew that their spirits remained unfettered, and so they praised God so confidently, so loudly, that others around them took note.
As their lips proclaimed God’s Goodness, God revealed Himself in their physical circumstances. One mystery of Praise is that it brings the physical (circumstances or feelings) in alignment with the spiritual, the seen in alignment with the unseen. It declares God’s Sovereignty over everything, inviting His Power to transform our situation. So, the next time you feel bound by sorrow, pain, or other temporal chains, raise unfettered Praise to God and submit your spirit to the Truth of His Goodness.
Reflection
What chains—whether of fear, doubt, or sorrow—are holding you back? Use Praise to declare your Freedom in Christ.
Prayer
Lord, remind me that my chains are broken in Christ Jesus. Let my Praise rise like Paul and Silas’—bold, unfettered, and unwavering—proclaiming Your Goodness no matter where I am. Amen.
