Sermon on the Mount: The BeatitudesSample
Day 2:
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. - Matthew 5:3
Embracing dependence on God
Embracing our dependence on God is a transformative act of faith, acknowledging He is our ultimate source of strength, wisdom, and provision. It requires surrendering our desire for control and recognizing that we are limited in our power. Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” This verse reminds us that dependence on God isn’t passive; it’s an active trust, inviting Him to direct our steps.
Our human tendency often relies on our intellect, resources, or abilities. However, true peace and fulfillment come when we shift our focus from self-sufficiency to reliance on God’s grace and wisdom. Dependence on God opens the door to deeper intimacy with Him. It allows us to experience His faithfulness, knowing He is with us in every circumstance, providing what we need when needed.
As we embrace this dependence, we also find freedom. We are no longer bound by the pressures of performing or striving for strength. Instead, we are sustained by the One who holds all things together, finding rest and purpose in His loving care.
Prayer focus:
Asking for a deeper trust in God’s provision and direction.

About this Plan
The Sermon on the Mount is one of the most incredible passages of scripture in the entire Bible. It is the longest passage of Jesus speaking without interruption. The Beatitudes, or attitudes of supreme blessing, are a roadmap for our lives, teaching us to reflect the nature of Jesus Christ in every interaction. Throughout this devotional, we will spend three days on each beatitude, ending with a focus on applying the entirety of it to our daily lives.
