Legacy of Faith- Hebrews 11Sample
“A Call to Obedience”
“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.” —Hebrews 11:8
We all want to know where we are going in life. As kids, we made decisions in our minds about what we wanted to be when we grew up—whether it was being an astronaut, the president, or a professional athlete, we all mapped out where we thought our lives were headed. It is deeply ingrained in our culture to believe that we should know what we are going to do from birth to grave. However, in a life of faith, it takes obedience in not knowing where you are headed but in faith going to the place where He has called you.
There are so many temptations that can prevent you from stepping out and following God because of the uncertainty that comes with obedience. When I first felt in my heart that I was meant to leave Maryland and attend Jerry Savelle Bible College, I had many “How can I do this?” and “What if?” thoughts that tried to hold me back. Not only did I struggle with my own doubts, but I also had people around me saying, “You can just stay and do ministry here in Maryland.”
Even after I decided to step out in faith, the temptation to stay remained. Many people suggested I attend a different Bible college. But I knew in my heart that I was called to Jerry Savelle Bible College, and I had to be obedient. I didn’t know everything that was in store for me there, but as I walked into the unknown, I walked in faith. I wasn’t swayed by others but remained obedient to the call on my life, and God has blessed me greatly because of it.
In Acts, chapter 5, the apostles are on trial before the Sanhedrin for preaching the Gospel. When asked why they didn’t stop preaching in the name of Jesus, Peter and the other apostles respond in verse 29, “We ought to obey God rather than men.” The call we receive from God is far more important than what anyone else tells us to do. As you go about your day, remember that there are amazing things on the other side of your obedience, for faith is because faith is found in our obedience.

About this Plan
Faith is more than a term—it’s essential to our Christian life. It’s not a sermon, denomination, or movement. Romans 1:17 and Galatians 3:11 remind us that "the just shall live by faith." Hebrews 11:1 also teaches, "Without faith, it is impossible to please Him." As children of God, we must cultivate and strengthen our faith. Over the next 14 days, Pastor Justin Bridges will lead us through Hebrews 11, showing us how to apply faith in our lives and how to live victoriously by faith, just like those heroes of faith who went before us.
