Legacy of Faith- Hebrews 11

DAY 5 OF 14

“Faith Is Found in My Seeking”

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”—Hebrews 11:6

I learned so many valuable things from Jerry Savelle many years ago when I attended his Passion for God and Passion for Souls class. He made a point to tell us that God doesn’t show up where He is needed; He shows up where He is sought. Seeking after God must be our primary pursuit! Another thing he taught us was that too many people are seeking God’s hands when they should be seeking God’s face. We need to realize that when we seek His face, we get His hands! Seeking is connected to having faith in God.

In yesterday’s devotion, we learned that we have to believe that He is, so when we believe that He is everything we need Him to be, we will seek Him for every area of our lives. Faith is found in what we are seeking and what we are pursuing, whether in the negative or in the positives. If I believe and have faith that Wall Street is the answer to my life, then I will seek after Wall Street. When I believe that God is, then I will seek Him diligently. We see this in several places within scripture.

In Psalms 27, David writes in verses 1 to 2, “The Lord is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?” Then in verses 2 to 3, he tells us that enemies have come against him and armies are surrounding him, but he boldly declares, “My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident.” (Determined faith.) So, what does determined faith do? In verse 4, he tells us, “One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek. That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in His temple.” David determined that when he was surrounded by an army, he was to seek after God, because when you have faith in God, you will always look to Him as the answer.

Jesus communicates the same truth to us in the Gospels when He is teaching on the Sermon on the Mount. In Matthew 6, He tells us not to worry about our life . . . “to consider the flowers of the field, that God takes care of them. How much more will He take care of you?” He then lets us know what our position of faith should be as we walk through this life in Matthew 6:33. He says, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” So today seek Him in who He is, and I believe all the things you have need of will be added to you because your faith is found in your seeking!

About this Plan

Legacy of Faith- Hebrews 11

Faith is more than a term—it’s essential to our Christian life. It’s not a sermon, denomination, or movement. Romans 1:17 and Galatians 3:11 remind us that "the just shall live by faith." Hebrews 11:1 also teaches, "Without faith, it is impossible to please Him." As children of God, we must cultivate and strengthen our faith. Over the next 14 days, Pastor Justin Bridges will lead us through Hebrews 11, showing us how to apply faith in our lives and how to live victoriously by faith, just like those heroes of faith who went before us.
